Privacy Policy
Effective at launch
Arkeep is built so your files and your archive history stay on your own devices. Our apps have no analytics, ads, tracking or crash reporting, and we never see your files, file names or folders. The website counts visits without cookies, as explained below. This policy explains the small amount of information we do handle and why.
Arkeep is made by Bacon Like The Food Productions LLC ("we" or "us"), 3343 Peachtree Rd NE, Suite 145 PMB 1664, Atlanta, GA 30326. You can reach us at support@arkeep.app.
What stays on your devices
The Arkeep Mac app builds an index of your archive drives. The index holds file names, folders, sizes, dates and fingerprints for every file on those drives, plus your card checks and offload history. It also keeps card names you give, camera models, camera serial numbers, card serial numbers, thumbnails, check reports and your settings. All of it is stored in your own Mac account, and none of it is sent to us.
When Arkeep copies files, it writes an offload proof into the destination folder on your drive. The proof includes checksums of each file, Arkeep's version and your Mac's computer name, following the film industry's MHL standard.
If you turn on history backups, Arkeep saves encrypted copies of your index to a folder you choose. Only your recovery key can open them.
The iPhone app
When you pair your iPhone with your Mac, the Mac encrypts a copy of your index and saves it to a folder called "Arkeep" in your own iCloud Drive. The key to open it is passed from your Mac to your iPhone through a QR code on your screen, never over the internet. Apple stores the encrypted file as part of your iCloud Drive but can't read it, and we never receive it.
The iPhone app makes no internet connections of its own. It reads the encrypted copy, keeps a working copy in the app's private storage protected by your iPhone's own encryption, and reads cards you choose to check. Turning off the iPhone copy on your Mac deletes it from iCloud Drive, and deleting the iPhone app deletes the working copy.
Update checks
The Mac app checks arkeep.app for updates once a day. This is on when you first install Arkeep, and you can turn it off in Settings, Updates. A check sends only Arkeep's version number. Like any web request, it also reveals your internet (IP) address to our web host, Cloudflare. We don't save these addresses.
Buying Arkeep
Payments are handled by Stripe through Link, which is the merchant of record for your purchase. Your card details, billing address and tax details go to Stripe and Link, never to us. Stripe's privacy policy covers that information.
From Stripe, we receive and keep your name, email address, country, what you bought, the amounts paid and any discount or creator code used. We also keep a link to your Stripe receipt. We use this to issue and manage your license, answer support questions and keep tax records.
Your license
We store your license key, your name and email, the license type and the dates your updates run through. When licensing is turned on in the Mac app, each computer you activate sends us your license key, a random device ID created by Arkeep (not taken from your hardware) and the computer's name, such as "Jordan's MacBook Pro." This lets you see and remove your computers.
If you turn on "Email me my recovery key," your recovery key is sent to us and passed to our email provider to be emailed to you. We don't store it.
Emails
We send emails such as your license key, sign-in links for the "Your licenses" page, support replies and, if you join it, the Windows waitlist confirmation. We send them through our email provider, Resend, which receives each email's full content in order to deliver it and keeps its own record of sent emails. We keep only a record of who an email went to, which type it was, when and whether it was delivered. We never keep the email's contents.
We don't send marketing emails unless you join a list, and every list email has a link to leave.
Support requests
When you contact support, we keep your name, email, optional license key, computer and app version, your message and any file you attach. Attachments are deleted 90 days after your request is closed, and the request itself is deleted a year after it's closed.
The website
arkeep.app sets no cookies and uses no ads or tracking. To count visits, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and doesn't identify you or follow you to other sites. For each page view it notes the page, the site you came from, your browser and device type, your country and how fast the page loaded, and we see only totals. Our fonts are hosted on our own site. If you arrive through a creator's link, your browser remembers that creator for 30 days so they get credit if you buy. A few other things are kept in your browser only while a tab is open, such as your sign-in to the "Your licenses" page.
Cloudflare hosts our website, license server, database and support file storage, and it handles your internet address when you visit. We don't save visitor logs.
Who we share information with
We don't sell your information or share it for advertising. We only use these services to run Arkeep:
| Service | What it does for Arkeep |
|---|---|
| Stripe and Link | Payments, receipts, sales tax and payment support |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the website, license server, database and support attachments, and counts website visits |
| Resend | Sends our emails |
| Apple iCloud Drive | Stores your encrypted iPhone copy, in your own account |
We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep information
- License and order records: as long as your license exists.
- Computers on your license: until you or we remove them.
- Support attachments: 90 days after the request is closed. Support requests: 1 year after closing.
- Windows waitlist: until you leave the list, or 30 days after Windows launches if you haven't bought.
- Sign-in links: 30 minutes. Sign-in sessions: 12 hours.
Deleting your information
Email support@arkeep.app to ask us to delete your information. We'll erase your name, email, computers, support requests, waitlist entry and email records, and turn off your license. We keep the amount, date, country and Stripe reference of each purchase for 7 years for tax records, with no name or email attached. If you ask Stripe or Link to delete your information, they notify us and we delete it the same way.
We can't delete copies held by others, such as emails already in your inbox, Resend's delivery records or Stripe's own records. Information on your own devices is yours to delete: remove Arkeep's folder in your Mac's Library and delete the iPhone app.
You can also ask us what information we have about you, or ask us to correct it.
Children
Arkeep isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already have, we'll email you before it takes effect.
